Title: Washing Machine Repair Recommendations
Post by: G-Man on January 07, 2012, 02:53:32 PM
My Washing Machine is not draining. I guess the pump needs to be cleaned. Can anyone recommend a good local engineer? Thanks GA

Thanks Peter. I have been trying for the past couple of hours. Manage to loosen the filter plug but cannot get the filter to come out. Some rubbish Hotpoint machine that came with the flat ;)

Give it a good twist n' tug, it'll come.  It might need a few turns to undo maybe, I'm sure brute force and ignorance will win the day. Haha  :P

Did all that, the plug is close to disintegrating. Hence seeking a specialist or someone with some prior experience even though it means parting with some hard earned money. :'(.

Oh noes :(

Sounds like a pro is needed.  Does Google\You Tube return any DIY instructions or videos?

Yep, looked at google and utube but seems like previous guys never cleaned it, so its kind a stuck and will require some kind of specialist tools. Will keep you updated.

Did you manage to fix your washing machine? I have exactly the same problem. Can't get the filter cap off my Hotpoint to check if anything is stuck. Or any recommendations for who I can ask for help?

That cap is not meant to come off. You need to call a WM repair guy, who will come, pull out your machine and probably change your pump. It costed me GBP 85 ( 20 for the pump and 65 for the labour). However, 2 months later the whole washing machine stopped working. So I have changed the piece of crap known as Hotpoint and bought a new Miele.
