If the Island Health Centre is the one near to Asda, VQ residents can't register there; it's outside our area.  I tried.

I had avoided registering with a GP because I thought All Saints was the only choice, and I'd heard bad stories about the place, overcrowded, appointments hard to get, surly staff, etc.

Then I discovered the Aberfeldy Practice, and I'd highly recommend it.  Modern building and really quite efficient.  And it's very walkable, and the on foot route there feels safer than going to All Saints or Chrisp Street.

Aberfeldy is great.  They all seem really nice - have no issues with any of the Doctors there :)

Am looking for a GP to register with, seeing as this thread is about 2 years old - is Aberfeldy Practice still recommended by anyone here or are there any other good alternatives?

Thanks in advance.

Yep, still Aberfedly :)  They're awesome and friendly.

All Saints practise - I have NEVER heard a good word about. I know a few people that have switched from them to Aberfeldy just a couple of weeks ago :)

Aberfeldy is better than All Saints, though their telephone reception isn't as good as it was.

And it is much more accessible from VQ, easily walkable and also safer.  If you aren't driving, AS is a schlep on the DLR, and you have to change at Poplar.  Plus it is not safe there in the evening, esp after dark, and esp if you don't 'fit in'.

I can attest to Aberfeldy's superior service over All Saints Practice. Doctors at All Saints Practice were rude and inconsiderate, plus you'd need to call first thing in the morning when they open to make appointment.

Look at NHS's website and you'll see people's complaints on All Saints Practice and praises for Aberfeldy.

My wife and I switched early this year and never looked back.

Does anyone know a quick way to walk to Aberfeldy?  Takes me ages crossing all those lights out the back of the Travelodge!

In the end, almost like those old jokes, it depends on where you're starting from.  But if u r a the porter's lodge end, you just weave your way up to the main road, East India, cross there and carry on westward and there is a gate break in railings that takes pedestrians or cyclists straight into the Aberfeldy area.

I just walk up past the Esso Garage towards the old hotel... cross the road and go up past the barbers thats on the right. Ettrick Street is up there on the left..
